Private vehicle mainly have three documents

1. Registration Certificate (R.C.)
2. Insurance Certificate
3. Pollution Certificate

From R.C., We can know about the place of the registration, owner of the vehicle, address of the vehicle owner, chassis no & engine no etc. We are explaining all the details of R.C. below.

By knowing the R.C., we can avoid purchasing the fraud vehicle , stolen vehicle and loan vehicle.

Describe RC-Have you ever thought the columns that are printed on RC. What are these? What is the meaning of every word?
RC contains Each and every hidden detail of vehicle.

(a) Registration no- HR21X0000 HR shows state Haryana, 21 shows registering authority code, X shows vehicle registration series, last four numeric digit shows vehicle number series. 1. First two digits will change according to the state. Eg. AP shows Andhra Pradesh. Next two numeric digits will represent the district or tehsil of that state. E.g. 21 in Andhra Pradesh shows Kurnool RTA. Next alphabets digit may contain up to 3 digits which shows the no of vehicles registered till now. Next digits are always numeric and have maximum four digits.

(b) Registered Owner- Pankaj Kumar Registered Owner shows that who is the owner of the vehicle and it can be individual or a firm also. If the vehicle is registered in the name of firm, then column of registered owner contains the name of that firm. E.g.- Registered Owner- A2Z vehicle solution Ltd. It means vehicle is registered under the name of A2Z vehicle solution Ltd (firm)

(C) S/d/w of- Sh. Gyan Chand. Son of/ daughter of/ wife of. It contains the name of father of registered owner. Or the name of husband of the female (in case she is married) If she is unmarried, it contains the name of the father.

(d) Purpose- DUP or CNT. 1. DUP means issue of duplicate copy of RC. i.e. Original RC is missing. RC is issued duplicate. There is no issue. If original RC got missed, duplicate RC can be issued. 2. CNT means converted. i.e. vehicle is converted from commercial to private. This vehicle was used for taxi purpose earlier. Now it is used as private purpose. The market value of these types of vehicle is generally less than the original private vehicle.

(E) Registration date- 29/07/2014 this date shows the date, month and year of registration of vehicle. It should be extend of manufacturing date.

(F) Manufacturing date-May,2014. Manufacturing date shows the month and year of vehicle in which that vehicle is manufactured in plant. E.g.- Manufacturing month- May, 2014, then Registration date- 29/07/2014 is fine. Vehicle is original. If the manufacturing month is May,2014 but registered date is January, 2014, then vehicle is under Suspense. Chasis no also contains the manufacturing month and year of vehicle. By using Chasis no, we can know about the registration date of vehicle if it is correct or not.

(G) Color- Pristin_white. It represents the colour of vehicle body. It can be White, Black, Silver, Red etc.

(h) Fuel-Petrol, DieselCNG etc. It represents the fuel of the vehicle on which it runs. Eg.- Petrol, Diesel, CNG or electric etc. If CNG + Petrol is mentioned, it means it runs on both CNG and petrol.

(I) Vehicle Class - LMV car/ Motor car - NT. It represents the class to which the vehicle belongs to. 1. LMV means Light Motor vehicle. For cars, LMV is mentioned. 2. Motor Car NT means this vehicle is used only or Non Transport purpose.

(J) Body Type- Sedan ( Saloon) /Hatchback/SUV It represents the type of body of a vehicle. a. Sedan (Saloon) represents a car which has separate boot (Diggy) from the body of the car. Eg- Maruti Swift Dezire. b. Hatchback represents a car which has boot (Diggy) within the body of car. E.g.- Maruti Swift c. SUV- Sport Utility Vehicle- It’s a kind of Heavy vehicle. Its seating capacity is also more than Sedan/Hatchback. It is a family car. E.g.- Toyota Fortuner.

(K) Manufacturer- Maruti/ Tata/Honda/ Hyundai etc. It shows the brand or company of the vehicle by which it is manufactured.

(L) Chasis no- MAT624030HPH20879- Every model of each brand indicates the chasis no of the vehicle. It is also called VIN no.(Vehicle Identification Number). It also shows the Country, Brand, Manufacturing Month & Year cand no of units Manufactured by the brand. Chasis no contains all the hidden details of a vehicle. It mostly presents inside of Bonnet or Chasis Plate. Chasis no/VIN no can be indicated by 2 types. Either it is Pressed on the body or indicated on Chasis plate.

(M) Engine NO- 100A2000-0697492- It is indicated on a plate or pressed on the engine of every model of each brand. It defines the engine. It shows that which type of engine is this Petrol or Diesel?

(N) Model Name or Maker Classification- Tata Zest XM Quartet- It shows the Brand, Model And Variants of the vehicle.

(O) Hypothecated to- Tata Motors Financial Services Ltd./Magma Financial Ltd./ HDFC Bank/ Kotak Mahindra Bank etc. Hypothecation (HP) means Higher Purchase Agreement. It is between Borrower (Vehicle Purchaser) and Finance company or Bank which provides the Loan to the Borrower (Purchaser) to Purchase the vehicle. The name of same Bank or Finance company is indicated on the RC Book.

(P) Seating capacity- 4+1 (5). It shows the no of passengers which can travel in the vehicle at one time. 4 Passengers + 1 Driver. In case of SUV, it can extend to 7 or 8 . Driver is included in the seating capacity.

(Q) No of Cylinders- 4 Cylinder supply Power to the engine. Indian Cars mostly contains 3-4 cylinders which burns Fuel ( Petrol/Diesel/CNG) and produce the Power.

(R) Owner Serial- 1/2/3 etc. Owner Serial shows the no of owners to which it had transferred already. In Old vehicles, it plays importance role in deciding the vehicle price. If the vehicle is first owner, then it is kept carefully. First owner vehicle cost is mostly high. The vehicles that are transferred many times, it means they had gone through many hands. Their cost is generally less.

(S) Unladen Weight-1167 Kg Unladen weight means Weight without load. i.e. Weight of the vehicle.

(T) Cubic Capacity (CC)- 1248 It represents the capacity of the engine. From this CC, the insurance premium is decided.

(U) Wheel Base- 2470 mm It is the distance between the centers of front and rear wheels. Wheelbase plays important role in Weight Distribution of Vehicle, Steering and Balancing.

(V) RLW/ GVW- 1617 Kg It Means Registered Laden Weight/ Gross Vehicle Weight. It represents the Weight of vehicle with Passengers.

(W) Tax Paid- O.T.T.(One Time tax) It is the Road Tax Paid to the Government during the registration of the vehicle. It is Paid to the State Government in which that vehicle is registered. O.T.T. for Petrol Vehicle is paid or 15 years while or Diesel vehicle this time is 10 years. Earlier it was 15 years or both Petrol and Diesel vehicles. It represents the life of the vehicle i.e. Petrol vehicles can only run for 15 years and diesel vehicles run for 10 years on the road.

(X) Registered Validity- 28/07/2029 It shows the life of the vehicle. From Registration date, for Petrol it is 15 years and for diesel it is 10 years.

(Y) Address- House no-000, Ward no- 0, Gali no 0, ABC Colony, XYZ District, Haryana. It is the address of registered owner where he/she resides. It is taken by Government for tracing the address in case of Mishappening.

(Z) At the end of RC, there is signature of registering officer with stamp in case of manual sign or they can be digitally signature. The name of Issuing authority is also mentioned.
